2013 in Review

I can’t remember a time when I’ve looked back throughout one particular year and thought to myself, “Wow. This year is the one to beat.” But 2013 has been that year for me. Both from a running and personal perspective, I’ve worked hard to make some moves and it still sort of blows my mind that it all happened in the past 12 months.

Race Recap | Marine Corps Marathon

I remember one particular summer afternoon six years ago while training with a friend for our first 10k race. I distinctly remember saying after what was probably a 4-5 mile run that “I could never run a marathon”. Last Minute Marathon Advice

Whew it feels like it’s been forever since my last post but it’s only been two weeks! I really wanted to get a post written last week but I just started a new job at work which I love and am excited to dive into but I’m also wrapping up a few things with my previous role so it’s definitely been a balancing act this past week and on top of that there’s grad school homework calling my name. On Friday I went to the store to pick up some fuel – this worth mentioning because this is the first time I’ve ever fueled during a run. I’ve taken Gatorade and water but never anything more than that. So I bought some Clif Bar Shot Bloks, Honey Stingers, and nuun tablets.

Marine Corps Marathon Training

I’ve been training since July for my very first marathon – the Marine Corps Marathon on October 27th. It has certainly been a journey so far, beginning with the race registration process. I think I’d rather run a full marathon than have to go through such a stressful race registration again! Why did I pick MCM as my first marathon? It’s flat (that part was essential), it has a great reputation, the route goes by many DC monuments and sites, and it doesn’t hurt that Marines are waiting at the finish line to hand out the medals. I especially don’t hate that last part.
